Three months ago I had an opportunity to go in for a surgery that would potentially change my life forever. It was a surgery that involved removing a piece of my brain that caused many of the seizures that I was experiencing in hopes that it would make them stop. Prior to, and even after the surgery I would be approached by people saying things like “you are so brave Danny, I could never do it.” Or “I don’t know where you found the courage to do this.” As I look back, I have to say I was scared to death, but it was something I wanted more than anything else in the world! I knew the risks, I knew the outcomes, and I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from pursuing a lifelong dream, not even fear! We all get afraid from time to time; it is the normal course of life. Why let it shatter a dream? Make us lose our focus? Stop us from moving on to the next step? We shouldn’t! Fear is normal, but introducing fear to bravery and kicking it to the curb, now that’s extraordinary! Here are three simple rules you can start implementing today to kick your fear to the curb.

same day payday loans

Approach life with a positive attitude

Always keep an open mind and an open heart

Show the world that you are not afraid, SMILE!

Post script: I still have seizures. The surgery was a success in other ways though, so I am completely happy with the results. Positive attitudes rule!

Our perception of self is an amazing thing, and too often we let it get the best of us. All our lives we are taught to love ourselves for who we are, but as we move on with life, and we see different images on television, in magazines, and on Facebook our perceptions of ourselves tends to dwindle, and most often a negative image appears. At the same time, our inner voice gets more and more twisted and starts to develop a negative undertone as well. Some of you are probably saying I was never taught to love myself, and that’s okay, because it is never too late to start, and it all starts with these two words I AM. Developing a positive I AM can give you the tools to turn your perception around and start loving yourself for who you truly are and will give you the ability to develop an inner voice that will steer you in the direction of your dreams.

Here are a few I AM quotes to get you started. I encourage you to pick the ones that resonate with you most, copy them, print them out and post them where you can read them every morning. A bathroom mirror or vanity will work best because you want to see yourself as you are saying them, because seeing is ultimately BELIEVING!

I AM Beautiful because I am aware of my flaws

I AM Strong because I know my weaknesses

I AM Confident in my abilities

I AM focused on my goals

Keep on Keeping On Everyone!

You live your life day by day, hour by hour, minute by painstaking minute until you are asked the question, if you had the chance to do something to change your life forever, would you do it?

On February 7th, 2013 I had the opportunity to do just that. Was I scared? Yes. Was I excited? You better believe it! I was a candidate for the seizure surgery, an operation that could potentially be life changing. A few months prior I went through all of the preliminary testing, and was told that after the surgery I would either be 75-80% seizure free, but I may lose more motor function in my left arm and for someone with cerebral palsy, that would be devastating! I was also told that I could still have some seizures at a less severe level. I made the decision; I had to fight through the fear and go for it! No matter what there would be some light at the end of the tunnel. On February 7th I was taken in for my first of two brain surgeries. Two weeks after that I was out of the hospital, and today I am able to use my left arm. Something I never thought possible! Do I still have seizures you ask? Yep. Are they less severe? Absolutely. But, all in all I consider myself and will always remain GRATEFUL. I had an opportunity to CHANGE my life forever, and even though things didn’t work out 100% as planned I am GRATEFUL for what has come out of it.

Being grateful is the driving force behind everything. If we are not grateful for what we have now or even to go as far as to say what we had in the past, CHANGE will not occur. Being Thankful every day for the things you have and most of all do not have will give you the drive to strive harder to reach your goals and conquer your dreams.

Have you ever wondered why it can be just so damn hard to get everything done in a day? Have you ever felt burnt out, stressed out, and worn out from everything that’s going on in your life?

Join the club.

It’s fairly typical for women to bust ass for everyone else, only to feel exhausted day after day.

What we’re missing here is the key to your sustained health and happiness, which I believe is the key to creating a better world: Self-love.

Here’s the thing: When you’re constantly giving of your time and energy to other people, you leave approximately none for yourself. And you know what happens when you’re out of energy? There’s none left to give to others! Looks like we’re setting ourselves up for a lose-lose situation.

So, how can we change this?

By making ourselves the number one priority. I know that a lot of moms, wives, friends, business owners, and all other manners of female consider this to be a human atrocity. That’s just not the case.

Consider it like a bank account: What happens when you keep taking money out of your bank account? Your balance gets lower. What if you keep taking money out without ever depositing any? You overdraw your account. Oops! And then what happens? The bank hits you with an overdraft fee. OUCH. It’s kind of like putting salt in the wound: You’ve run out of money – and they ask for more!

This is what you’re doing with your life. You’re taking from your emotional energy bank account without ever giving back to it. Eventually you hit the point where you’re overdrawing from that account. This can take the form of exhaustion, resentment, a nervous breakdown, physical illness, you name it. You now feel awful and have no energy to keep on giving to others.

As we’ve already said, the key to fixing this problem is to make ourselves the number one priority. But what does this look like?

It looks like doing whatever YOU find to be pleasurable, whether that’s shopping at the mall, going to the spa, or getting in a good workout.

Here’s how to get started:

Find yourself a pen and paper (Quick! We’re doing this NOW!) :]

Make a list of all the activities you enjoy

Put a star next to your favorite activities

Pull out your schedule (or your iPhone calendar)

Schedule one of those activities this week (not next week or next month!)

Stick with it.

Taking time for YOU allows you to not just take really good care of yourself, but allows you to better serve others, which I know is really important to you. Imagine feeling really happy, confident, and fulfilled and going about your daily to dos, instead of feeling harried, stressed, and overwhelmed. There’s a HUGE difference there!

Putting yourself first creates a more enjoyable experience for everyone. So, what are you waiting for?!

Share your favorite self-care activities in the comments and check back for inspiration from others!

Have you ever wanted to confront your fears? What would you tell them and why? Our fears come in all shapes and sizes, but no matter what, we MUST NOT let them get in the way of anything that we want to accomplish in life. If you could write a letter to your fear, what would it sound like? Would it be full of anger and hate? Or would it be a letter that tells your fear how it has helped shape you and allowed you to move on with your life? Any fear is scary, and any fear CAN and WILL be OVERCOME, you just have to give it time. I’ve found that by telling my clients to address their fears in a letter has been a very therapeutic and helpful way in addressing their fear and letting it know that they have carried it around for long enough and they are READY to LET IT GO. Here is an example that I have written to my fear. How would you address yours?

Dear fear,
I know you are here, and I acknowledge that. Even though you may show up from time to time, I WILL NOT let you take control of my life! Regardless of how often you try and defeat me, NOTHING will get in my way of following through on what my life has in store for me. Thank you for keeping me on my toes and making me a much stronger person.

Here are some ways to help conquer your fears:

Write your fear a letter: Let it know how you feel. How it has hurt your progress and how it has also made you stronger to move on and follow your dream.

Journal your fears: Write down what makes you afraid. When we write down what is holding you back, it will allow you to reflect and loosen fears grip by observing it. The more you acknowledge that your fear is there, the less of a threat it will become

Take small steps: All it takes is one step, not a giant leap. Taking small steps towards your fear is better than taking none at all. Remember every small step taken is equals one big step towards conquering your fear.

Believe in yourself: Don’t cloud your mind up with negative thoughts. Know that YOU CAN do anything that you wish to do. Set up your mind for success and take it from there.

Do you find yourself constantly setting yourself up for failure? I would love to help you get through it. Send me an email and we can set up a time for a free motivational breakthrough session. mailto:danny@djchealthylivingnow.com

CHALLENGE YOURSELF to do something GREAT! Life was not given to us to be easy. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, but we must take that first step. Be fearless in your efforts and everything will start to fall into place. A new year is upon us and we can either CHALLENGE ourselves to do something that we never thought possible or we can stay on the same track we were on the year before and think of how everything could have turned out. NEVER let fear STOP YOU, but also never let fear shape who you are. See your fear and embrace it. It is at the moment when a CHANGE can occur and your chance to TAKE ACTION can begin!

Here are some steps you can take to help you TAKE ACTION and CHALLENGE YOURSELF this new year:

Visualize your goals: I speak with many women who want to lose weight, and when I ask them what are your weight loss goals, their response is usually I want to lose 30lbs. STOP! Wanting to lose, and have a goal to shoot for to lose that 30lbs are two different things. Let me explain, anyone can say they want to lose 30lbs but to truly put it into perspective, I say the best way is to visualize yourself thin. If you can really truly see yourself thirty pounds lighter in the body, it is then that you can start setting smaller more realistic goals to get you to your ideal weight.

Do daily affirmations: Repeating a daily affirmation to yourself can greatly help you speed along your progress. Here are a few to get you started. I am a strong and beautiful person. i will lose the weight that i want to lose. I AM FEARLESS AND CAN DO ANYTHING I PUT MY MIND TO

Write down your goals: Writing down your goals and posting them where you see them every day is one key to successfully reaching it.

what are some ways that you plan to take action this year? I would love to hear all about it. As always please pass this message on to anyone that you feel may benefit from this message.

Keep on Keeping on Everyone!

Every day is another day to start over, to begin again. NEVER let your fear of failure and the mistakes made in the past stop you from pursuing a goal that you have been wanting to accomplish. We all have setbacks in life, but you must not forget that a setback is always a means to a GREATER, more WISH FULFILLING COMEBACK! The holidays are over and the New Year is right around the corner, why let things from our past, stop us from defining our FUTURE? Go out there and FIGHT for what you BELIEVE IN. Go forth and CONQUER your setbacks, and start laying the bridge so you can take the steps to making the COMEBACK that you’ve always wished to make. LIVE LIFE FEARLESSLY, and let NOTHING hold you back.

Here are a few ways to prepare for your comeback:

Develop a positive mental attitude: This is key to helping you push through your setback and develop a rational way of making the COMEBACK you have been waiting for.

Set Goals: Setting goals gives us something to aim for. These goals do not have to be big, as long as you are taking the necessary steps towards your goal is all that counts.

Embrace change: Okay, so you had a setback, don’t let it stop you! Learn from your mistake and use it as a stepping stone to get you to the next phase of your transformation. Turn your negative into a positive.

How do you plan to make your Comeback for the New Year? I would love to hear all about it!

Keep on Keeping on Everyone and a Happy New Year Too!!

You are at your holiday party and you are confronted with temptation after temptation, and you give in and have that glass of wine and piece of cake, is this the end of the world? NO! Tomorrow is a new day to start over and begin again where you left off. Setbacks happen, but why let them get in the way of your progress? You started on this journey for one reason and one reason only, to feel your best, not to let minor setbacks get in your way. Setbacks happen, and they will continue to happen, never let them take control and crush a dream. Failure is NOT inevitable. YOU CAN and YOU WILL pull through this. Tomorrow is another day to start fresh and put your best foot forward and get back on the track to SUCCESS!

Some ways to work through setbacks:

1. Step back and reflect: Stop, breathe and assess the situation. This will make you better able to adapt to what is at hand and work on ways to move forward

2. Focus on the present: I am not saying to completely forget about the past experience that created the setback, forgetting will simply not allow us to improve on it. I am saying to not dwell on the setback, this will only lead to guilt and doubt.

3. Failure happens: Yes, we all experience failure, some more than others. NEVER let it stop you from pushing through a setback. Take every failure as a learning experience.

How do you work through your setbacks? I would love to hear more about it.Please leave a comment and as always if you feel this message may resonate with someone else, pass it on.

Keep on Keeping on Everyone!

How often have you gotten up in the morning and said to yourself “I can’t wait for this day to end.” Even before your day has begun? Or you step onto the scale and the number just isn’t perfect, and you immediately say to yourself (or even sometimes out loud) “I just hate myself!” We all have had thoughts and days like this, where we just don’t want to face the world, but, what if I were to tell you that YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE THIS WAY? That YOU can live a life FULL OF GRATITUDE, but first, you must ACCEPT WHO YOU ARE NOW. We all have something to BE GRATEFUL FOR. We all have something to SMILE about. Currently if it isn’t your body that you are GRATEFUL for now, know that you are working towards getting it to where you want it to be, and it soon WILL BE something that YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR. If you wake up having a bad day, think of a few things that will make it GREAT, and move on with your day knowing things will only get better. Keeping this mindset will enable you to look at your situations differently. Yes, I am not there now, but I WILL BE and for now I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY with whom I AM NOW. SMALL STEPS equal BIG RESULTS so live life NOW and LIVE LIFE GRATEFULLY!

Some ways to help you find your GRATITUDE:

Write down everything that you are GRATEFUL for.

Take a 30 minute gratitude walk. While on this walk say “Thank you” for everything that you have in your life RIGHT NOW

Take time to meditate.

What are you grateful for and why? I would love to hear from you.

Keep on Keeping On Everyone!

I realize I might get a lot of smack for this, but stress is an excuse! An excuse to not eat right, an excuse to not exercise daily, an excuse to see which supplement Dr. Oz will recommend on television next that will help stop stubborn belly fat caused by stress. The reality is we all have our own amount of stress but it is up to us how we choose to handle it. Working at a local vitamin store I hear countless people say that they JUST CAN’T lose weight because of STRESS. The reality is YOU CAN lose weight if YOU, just CONCENTRATE ON YOUR GOALS, TAKE EACH DAY IN STRIDE and know that stress happens. It’s out of your control. Why let it crush your dream? PUSH AHEAD, put your stresses BEHIND YOU, and SHATTER YOUR GOALS!

Here are some ways to handle stress:

Get your rest: Getting at least 7-8 hours’ sleep at night has been shown to has been shown to decrease certain inflammatory markers including Ghrelin which has been shown to increase weight gain.

Have yourself a meditation moment: Studies show that allowing yourself to completely let for 5-10 minutes in the morning you can decrease your inflammatory response and increase serotonin which makes us feel good.

Laugh: Laughing makes us feel good, makes us happy, and reduces cortisol which also reduces inflammation. Laughter also increases endorphins the brains natural feel good chemical.
